What
if I have a Macintosh computer?
Use of Macintosh Computers to Take Exams:
Beginning in the Fall of 2007, students with
Macintosh computers capable of running Windows programs may use
their Macintosh computers for examinations, AT THEIR
OWN RISK, as ExamSoft software is written for PC
computers running Windows operating systems.
Our task force on this issue has concluded that properly equipped
Macintosh computers with the appropriate software properly installed
should run ExamSoft without difficulties. Although our investigations
have not revealed any problems so far, some of the software involved
is relatively new. Students with Macintosh computers should weigh
carefully the risk of discovering, during the examination period,
new incompatibilities between their Mac, Windows, ExamSoft, and
their particular configuration of hardware and software.
In order for a Macintosh computer to run ExamSoft, you
MUST have:
1. A Macintosh computer designed with an Intel processor
and a hard drive partitioned to run the Windows operating system
on half of the disk.
2. A version of the Windows operating system, we recommend XP,
installed on one of the partitions.
3. "MacOS Leopard", the newest Mac operating system
that allows you to move between hard drive partitions, installed
on the computer to allow booting the Windows operating system.
4. ExamSoft installed on the Windows partition of the computer
(as described above).
Please note, you will also need to be sure that the Mac AND Windows
partition of your computer is properly set-up with the University's
most recent virus protection software, as you will need to be
able to get onto the wirless Internet to transmit your Exam Answers.
***Students are responsible for obtaining and properly installing
all of the above software for their personal computers.***
What if I need other accommodations?
ONLY if you need any of the above
accommodations, submit a request for “Examination
Accommodations” to the Records Office no later than
October 31, 2008.
